Art on the Couch-Easy Peasy!

This Lap Studio project has been a passion project of mine for so long and I am excited to finally share it! I started out trying to figure out how to do art in my chair less awkwardly than balancing on a pillow and stuff sliding off my lap. I kept having to use supplies that were dictated by what I could bring with me to wherever I wanted to do art, whether another room in the house or outside. And that bugged me. I thought about all the things I have seen artists use when they are painting with easels plein aire, and it set my imagination going. I wanted a system to work for people of any age who wanted to draw and sketch in cities, in the forest, on the beach, in their car, or in their cozy nests at home or in a hotel. It was also important to me that it work for people like me with chronic illness who have a tiny window of energy that can easily be used up just getting ready to go out. So, my Lap Studio is small but mighty, it folds up, and you can set it up and bring whatever supplies you use for drawing, colouring, watercolour, urban sketching or art journaling. When paired with a bench, picnic blanket, camping chair, hiking chair or stool you can set up in the wilds of the park around the corner or on a grand safari! Just as importantly, you can cuddle up in a blanket on your chair, couch, or in bed. Art heals and art distracts me, which is why this has been an important Tammy sized journey. I know there are a lot of people out there that would also love if their art passion or creative hobby was just a bit easier.

Giant B6 Junk Journal Flip-through

I really love having both a sketchbook and an art journal going at the same time. In both I do some daily life recording pages and some purely for fun. I love using all kinds of art supplies in these journals. I think mainly I do line and watercolour wash, often in a sort of colouring book way, but I do also use pencil crayons, gouache and watercolour pencil crayons as well.

I hope you enjoy this flip through of this art journal. Again, I wonder if I have a certain style, could people tell this was my art? What do you think? I also think how my art journaling is changing. I have been doing a lot more sketchbook drawing lately, and it is starting to appear in my journals now too. Could I ever complete an art journal without collage? Will I want to? For now, I'll never say never!

B6 Traveler's Notebook Insert #9

Hi all! This here is a handmade B6 junk journal (my fav). I noticed while filming this journal that it stands out from my others a bit, because there are more painting style pages, more acrylic and gouache instead of my go-to watercolours. I used to be a prolific card maker, and I have an enormous surplus of blank greeting cards! Seriously....tons. This whole journal is made by binding these 5x7 cards together with the simple pamphlet stitch. Long way of saying that, acrylic and acrylic gouache work a lot better on the greeting card paper.

I started this junk journal because I bought some art supplies (shocking I know!), I got pastels from #carandache. These are the Neo Colour 1, I love them and the packaging. This insert has all kinds of art journaling in it, memory keeping, class work, outdoor art,couch art... you name it, it's probably in here! 🤗

Standard Sized Traveler's Notebook Insert #24

This journal is a bought insert made by Traveler's Company. I do like these journals for everything except with watercolour. The paper doesn't absorb the colour evenly and can get sort of spotty. I still used it a little bit, but acrylic gouache and acrylic paint both work great. I love that when I look back through my journals I can see the influence of other artists online classes. I adore taking online classes!
